Inspector of Works – Tunnel Boring Machine

About the role

The Inspector of Works – Tunnel Boring Machine will support the Senior Inspector/Section Engineer on the Polihali Transfer Tunnel project, part of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project Phase II. The role involves ensuring that all TBM‑related construction activities comply with contract documents, standards, and safety requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect the whole of the works for compliance with drawings, specifications, and applicable codes.
• Monitor TBM construction activities, verify procedures and materials meet specifications.
• Observe work in progress, record discrepancies, and communicate findings.
• Check drawings and plans for alignment with project specifications.
• Ensure contractor teams conduct Toolbox Talks, DSTIs, and task‑based risk assessments.
• Prepare daily diaries, document inspections, photograph site conditions, and share records with senior staff.
• Guarantee safe execution of works by contractors and sub‑contractors.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in underground TBM operations or similar civil‑engineering projects.
• BSc/B Eng, B Tech or National Diploma in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Knowledge of water‑related tunnelling projects is an advantage.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
